LANGUAGE LUNCHEONS

The Goal of the Luncheons is to honor language students for their high level conversation skills and to provide a setting where they will meet other Charlotte language students at the same level. Junior and seniors in high school in Mecklenburg County and the surrounding areas who excel at speaking Spanish, German, and French, will be brought together in a social atmosphere and provided with the opportunity to interact with speakers fluent in their chosen language. Local students will consider invitations to this luncheon an honor and a sign of excellence.

German Language Luncheon 2008

"he whole CWA dinner was WONDERFUL! Thank you for all your hard work and for wanting to honor the top language students. Mine always are so appreciative. This particular meeting was so well-organized, flowed freely, and had a wonderful speaker Kurt Waldthausen. It was great to get all the information about Germans and their effect on the world and the USA. Also, we teachers were surprised to get posters, books, and pencils that changed colors. (I gave the pencils to the students I have in my one German class and they were fascinated.)
All in all, it was SO NICE. I will be recommending that the new German teacher take advantage of this opportunity if it is offered again next year. (I am retiring.) His name is Christian Hopp, but doesn't have a CMS email address as of yet."
Judy Latham, Global Studies at Olympic High School German Teacher

"I hope the teachers can use the material and that some of the students will enjoy the T-shirts. I was very impressed with Rhonda Thompson and her ability to speak so well German after just learning the language for a three year period. Thanks also to all the things you do!" -  Kurt G. Waldthausen

"I want to thank you as well... and I think also that it was a great event. Our students had a good time and felt proud to be part of it. I hope you thought that they did a good job with their speaking part. I believe that it is always good to put young people on the spot so that they can experience being in front of a group of people and do it in a foreign language!
Thanks again to World Affairs Council for doing this event. It is fantastic..."
- Heidi Carpenter, Charlotte Latin

"Thank you very much for hosting our lunch. The event went very well. The students got to interact with each other and get to know each other. Thank you also for giving Marlene the opportunity to speak. That was an important experience for her and the group. I was impressed to see how many people are connected to the German community in town and to see the interest of American students in the country and language. Thank you again for your generous invitation."
- Maike Moeller, World Learning (Washington DC based)

"You arranged a wonderful event! Thank so much for inviting us to your gathering. I feel it was a special opportunity for our German guests and really for everyone that was there." - Lara Printz, International House

"Thank you for all your hard work. It was a very nice experience for me and my students!" - M. Harmaty, Myers Park High School German Teacher
